Stock exchanges implement daily price bands to control extreme volatility. When a stock hits its upper circuit limit, the CMP locks at that maximum permitted price. The order book shows only buyers with no sellers – market orders to buy cannot execute until a seller appears. Hitting the lower circuit creates the reverse situation.
