The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved four new semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) on Tuesday. The total investment for these projects is Rs 4,600 crore.
Two projects are located in Odisha, one in Punjab, and one in Andhra Pradesh. These projects aim to expand local semiconductor manufacturing, including chip production, packaging, and innovative materials, and will create around 2,000 skilled jobs immediately.
The approvals increase the ISM portfolio to ten projects across six states, with a total investment of Rs 1.6 lakh crore. The government said the move strengthens India’s semiconductor ecosystem for diverse industries.
In Odisha’s Info Valley, Bhubaneswar, SiCSem Private Limited will set up the country’s first commercial compound semiconductor factory. The facility will produce 60,000 wafers and package 96 million units annually for multiple industries.
The second Odisha project, by 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS), will establish an advanced packaging and embedded glass substrate unit. Annual output will include 69,600 glass panel substrates and 50 million assembled units.
In Andhra Pradesh, Advanced System in Package (ASIP) Technologies, in partnership with South Korea’s APACT Co. Ltd., will build a semiconductor unit with an annual capacity of 96 million units. It will serve mobile, automotive, and set-top box markets.
Continental Device India Ltd. (CDIL) in Mohali, Punjab, will expand its discrete semiconductor capacity. The upgraded plant will produce 158.38 million high-power devices annually, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, and Schottky diodes for EVs, renewable energy, and industrial applications.
The government stated these projects position India as a global semiconductor hub. ISM has already supported 72 startups, 278 academic institutions, and trained over 60,000 students, fostering a growing design and talent ecosystem nationwide.
